Moving into San Diego

February 16. 2016

First off, I have to introduce myself and my organization to you since we are new to the area. My name is John Safari and I run Orange County Music League. Last year we booked 202 shows in OC, and we aim for 300 this year between OC, SD and Long Beach.

What is Orange County Music League (OCML)??

Kevin Martin and I started OCML in December of 2013 to take a stand against venues and promoters that use artists for profits and destroy our live music scene. Pay to Play is a huge part of that so we attacked the problem head on and have since grown to be able to give the bands the best and most fair opportunities out there.

So here we are, moving into San Diego. Our first venue will be Mother’s Saloon in Ocean Beach on Saturday February 27th and then every other Saturday from then on out. Our first line up consists of local OB reggae band, No Kings. No Kings bring me back to the 90’s with their surf vibe that makes you feel like you were cruising down the street with Bradley himself. Also on the bill, The Sly Digs & Population U from OC are embarking on a three week long tour from SD to Seattle and this is their second stop. Take a look at this performance spotlight we did on The Sly Digs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSovn6WxLw0

Into March, we have March 12th with Best Supporting Actress from Downey and locals Super Buffet & Giant Surprise. You can count on a night with catchy riffs and a few great harmonies coming from BSA!

Closing out March we have the 26th as well at Mother’s with Chad Martini, Mochilero All Stars & Marujah to kick off Spring Break week correctly with reggae vibes by the water!  Chad Martini is a huge part of the Orange County music scene and makes music with a message. Listen to his single, “Mr. Policeman” and download it for free here (Just enter 0 when you click ‘Buy Now’) : https://radsampler.bandcamp.com/track/mr-policeman

Tuesday March 29th we are at Winston’s in Ocean Beach with The Shifty Eyed Dogs, The Shift (New York), Rhythm and the Method & Nate Hancock for just a $5 cover! Check out a video from The Shift here : https://youtu.be/NFluHb1rrgs

Wednesday night we are at The Merrow with another tour I booked for the Blues-Rock band called New American. These guys bring the thunder on stage and never disappoint with their live show. Nate Hancock will also be joining them with another band we haven’t confirmed just yet.

Now that the preview is over, I first want to thank you for reading, but I also want to thank you for your support of the live music scene. These bands couldn’t do it without you and we all appreciate it more than you know. This year is about meeting new people and exposing great new bands all over southern California. Be a part of it with us and always #EnjoyLocalMusic!
